Women are disproportionately affected by climate change impacts, yet only 0.01% of finance is allocated to this issue (SAEDI Consulting). While there is effort to mitigate these issues and support gender initiatives, real access to finance is a proven challenge.

BIDUK’s Managing Director, Kaylene Alvarez, was delighted to speak about Athena Global and BIDUK’s work to address these issues at the Gender Responsive Resourcing for Climate Resilience Action event sponsored by WOCAN (Women Organizing for Change in Agriculture and Natural Resource Management), Society of Gender Professionals and SAEDI Consulting. The event was an NGO CSW (United Nations Commission on the Status of Women) Forum parallel event held on Tuesday, March 22, 2022.

Kaylene spoke about her experience including BIDUK’s approach to advancing access to finance, particularly in relation to climate justice and resilience. Kaylene shared how BIDUK offers a bottom-up approach, focused on centering women in the design of our financing solutions. She also shared her perspective on supporting women fund managers and capital allocators, as well as the importance of getting women into the C suite and on boards.
